CELATOM Diatomaceous Earth
How does Diatomaceous Earth work?
“Many harmful things entering the body have a positive charge. Silica is a semi-conductive mineral which when warmed by body heat becomes negatively charged and gives off electrons. These negatively charged mineral ions and/or individual shells attract bad microbes, free radicals, positively charged waste and other harmful things. Acting as magnets, the negatively charged shells and/or ions attract and absorb positive things that are small enough to go through the holes. In addition, any larger parasites that happen to be in the stomach of digestive tract are “cut up” and killed by the sharp edges of the DE (but DE does NOT kill the beneficial bacteria in the gut). Because of the strong charge, each shell can absorb a large number of positively charged substances, whether they be chemical or in the form of bacteria or viruses. They pass on through the stomach and intestine, taking these harmful substances out of the body.” Source - http://thesoulofahorse.com/blog/no-more-poison-life-without-de-wormers/ Not harmful to earthworms
DE isn't harmful to earthworms, as they are structurally different from insects. Some earthworm farmers use DE in the bedding material to control parasites in it and in the worms. Many horse owners use it to dry out wet stalls and to fight the flies manure attracts. It is very absorbent; and detrimental to fly larvae. Food grade diatomaceous earth can be applied as a foliar spray or sprayed in buildings or just lightly sprinkled in pest infested areas or compost/manure piles. Great for internal worming purposes for humans and animals. Helps detox heavy metals. Diatomaceous earth is a drying agent, and thus reduces odour and moisture in barns and stalls. Fed to animals daily, food grade diatomaceous earth keeps fly larvae from developing in manure, noticeably reducing the fly population. Add diatomaceous earth to livestock waterers, it keeps the algae from growing in the hot summer months. For internal use, suggested feeding rates are 1% of weight of total dry ration or free choice for beef cattle; calves, 4 grams in morning milk; dairy cattle, same as beef cattle; chickens, 5% in feed; large dogs, 1 tablespoon per day; small dogs and cats, 1 teaspoon per day, adjusted for size; goats, I% in grain; hogs, 2% by weight in feed ration; horses, 40g in daily grain ration and sheep, 1% in ground grain. As a dust against fleas, lice and other external pests on dogs, cats and livestock.Use full strength as a talcum powder to rub into dog or cat coats. It can be sprinkled on pigs or added to dusting boxes for chickens. DE can be used as a dust or spray to control massed flies in pastures, in and around trees and shrubs, grounds and buildings and manure piles. Due to its fine powdery nature, DE is best applied at night when the air is calm. Dust on 10 to 15 kg per acre. For liquid spray, mix 1kg per 5 litres of water and agitate while using. BED BUG
Control with Diatomaceous Earth Remember to be patient when using diatomaceous earth to treat bed bugs. Bed bug infestations are considered by many to be the most difficult infestation to deal with. This is due to a couple different reasons. First, bed bugs are nocturnal, which makes it difficult to monitor where they nest. Second, bed bugs need to come into contact with diatomaceous earth to be effective. You'll need to sprinkle DE close to their nest. However, bed bugs are tricky to spot, so you have to be very thorough when treating your bedroom. Scoping and inspecting the room is necessary in order to find their hiding place. Dust the room and the identified spots where there is activity. If you sprinkle DE on a floor, the next morning , inspect for signs of movement through he powder. Any bug traipsing over the DE will die. Diatomaceous earth will continue working for months so long as it stays dry. You can leave a protective coat of DE to prevent future outbreaks of bed bugs. A good idea is to sprinkle the matrass , in the corner creases, and leave DE on the floor under your bed for a few days Should you encounter any more, simply repeat the process to restore a comfortable night's sleep. If earwigs become a problem as an infestation there are several effective organic methods that can be used for getting rid of them. Remove garden debris and excessive mulch where earwigs are living and breeding. Since earwigs seldom fly, DE around the house, feed room, trunks of trees, shrubs, and woody plants will prevent them from reaching the leaves and fruits on which they feed. Spread diatomaceous earth where they are apt to crawl. Make applications in late spring about a week apart, and treat the soil around the foundations of houses, along walks, fences, and around trees. If pest numbers become intolerable, DE should be used as spot treatments or crack and crevice mixed in a water solution sprays. |

The winning photography entry, "Glass Forest," depicts at the microscale level a community of diatoms, unicellular algae characterized by a peculiar glass-like cell wall, attached to the basal segment of a marine invertebrate and captured by Scanning Electron Microscope. with Diatomaceous Earth There is no wrong way to apply diatomaceous earth; it just needs to come into contact with the insect to work. Diatomaceous earth removes fleas, naturally. Fleas are an annoying parasite that feed on your pet's blood. They can even jump onto pant legs, blankets or shoes provided by people. Whether hitching a ride on a pet or pant leg, fleas can make themselves at home in our space. Once this happens, it becomes necessary to treat the infestation with a natural flea remedy. Diatomaceous earth is a natural solution to get rid of fleas that you can use directly on your pet. Even after diatomaceous earth has eliminated the flea cycle, you can continue to use it to prevent fleas from coming back. Learn how to use diatomaceous earth for fleas in the articles below. For natural flea control, diatomaceous earth is a green and effective product. Instead of environmentally harmful chemical reactions, DE works as an organic flea control through a mechanical reaction to dehydrate fleas and other bugs. Because the fossil diatoms are porous, they are very absorbent. Once DE comes into contact with a flea, it will begin dehydrating the flea. This quickly stops the flea's function to breathe or absorb liquids. DE is a successful flea repellent because the fleas will not become immune to it over time, which can happen with chemical products. For step-by-step instructions on home flea control and other natural flea remedies, check out our guide below. Normally these are the areas where your pets spend a lot of their time. If these areas are dark and somewhat damp, rearrange these areas to dry them out. Diatomaceous earth works better in a dry environment. Vacuum Those Areas You Plan to Treat. This process will help disrupt the life cycle of the eggs that have been laid. Diatomaceous earth works better on adult fleas rather than the eggs. Dust Those Areas That Have Been Exposed to the Fleas Remember that insects must come in contact with diatomaceous earth in order for it to be effective. If necessary, use an applicator, a brush, a dry sponge, or even your foot to work in the diatomaceous earth to the carpet. Fleas can live all the way down to the root of the carpet. Leave the Diatomaceous Earth in the Carpet for 4 to 12 Hours. As mentioned before, a flea must come in contact with the diatomaceous earth in order for it to work. The longer you leave it in the carpet, the better your chances of the flea coming in contact with it. The idea is to expose all of the fleas to the product. Dust the kennels and any area in the garden were you dog lies. You may even find he may roll in the DE, animals know and understand DE effectiveness. FEEDING DE to Horses

However, we believe that after you read a few testimonials that you will begin to see a pattern. “… to control flies, manure odour, parasites, and improve overall health*…” Customers, vets, and researchers claim: "Improved Digestion for animals" "Absorbs viruses and bacteria—passes them from the body" "Kills stomach and intestinal parasites better than toxic poisons -- with NO SIDE EFFECTS" "...Cuts vet bills up to 75%..." "Improves bone structure" "Gives hair more body and shiny appearance" "Stops fly hatch in manure. (Neighbours no longer complain about flies)" "Stops horses from chewing fence, cows from eating dirt..." "Greatly lowers odour of manure.
