RIGLY® Gluco Lube
MAINTENANCE ADMINISTRATION:
Average Horse: 5 millilitres twice daily. Horses over 545 kg: 10 millilitres twice daily. Dosage can be increased at any time to maintain desired comfort level. Two or three days before heavy workouts or competition, boost horse's daily dosage back to the appropriate initial loading dose. Continue the dose level for 2 to 3 days after competition, then return horse to its regular maintenance level. PACKAGED: 500 millilitres, 1 litre and 5 litres containers. |
This is a liquid formulation which contains a combination of glucosamine sulphate, chondroitin sulphate, lysine, manganese, copper and ascorbic acid.
Glucosamine is an aminomonosaccaride that functions in the body as the pre-cursor (building blocks) of the disaccharide unit in glycosaminoglycans (GAG-s). Dosing of glucosamine has been shown to have beneficial effects in arthritic cartilage by: Stimulating the synthesis of proteoglycans and collagen by cartilage cells. It has a mild anti-inflammatory action due to free-radical scavenging. It is believed to increase the production of hyaluronic acid which is the major component of joint fluid. Glucosamine is highly bioavailable and has been demonstrated to be effective in the management of osteo-arthritis, which has been published in numerous controlled clinical trials. Chondroitin Sulphate is the most abundant glycosaminoglycan in articular cartilage. The dosage of chondroitin sulphate has a number of beneficial effects in arthritic joints, as follows: It results in competitive inhibition of many of the degradative enzymes that break down cartilage. It has a mild anticoagulant action which helps reduce the development of blood clots within the joint structures and thus maximizes blood-flow to the cartilage. Low molecular weight chondroitin sulphate is highly bioavailable and the oral dosing has been shown to be effective in reducing the symptoms of arthritis in a number of clinical trials in both animals and man. The combination of glucosamine and chondroitin sulphate appears to be synergistic with better results being obtained using the two combined, than would be expected from the effect of the single compounds. The combination of these two main ingredients together with the other constituents lysine, manganese, copper and ascorbic acid, form additional building blocks to stimulate and aid in oteoglycan biosynthesis which results in a net increase in the amount of normal cartilage, the slowing of the progression of osteo-arthritis and reducing of symptoms. The management of arthritis involves an integrated approach with adjustment of exercise level, diet and a variety of medications. Chondroprotective agents like RIGLY GLUCO LUBE should be an integral part of arthritis management as they maximise the healing response of cartilage to help maintain normal joint structure and function for as long as possible. DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: The initial administration period is 4 to 6 weeks. The dosage can be increased, but should not be decreased during this period. If the horse shows little or no response after 30 days, extend the initial dosage for two more weeks. INITIAL ADMINISTRATION: Average Horse: 5 millilitres twice daily. Horses over 545 kg: 20 millilitres twice daily. After a good response is achieved, reduce total daily dosage by 5 ml each week. Gradually reducing the dosage in this manner will help find the individual maintenance level more easily. |
